How long does a solar panel installation take?
Fitting itself is usually a one-day job, running to two for a bigger array or an awkward roof.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
Most home solar installations fall under permitted development and don’t need planning permission, including within Dartmoor National Park. Listed buildings can be exceptions. See our Devon planning guide for the detail.
What maintenance do solar panels need?
Barely any, since there’s nothing mechanical inside them to wear down. A periodic look-over and clearing off heavy debris covers the vast majority of systems.
Is battery storage worth adding to my system?
It depends on when your household actually uses power. Heavy evening usage is where a battery pays for itself fastest, since it lets you use what your panels made earlier instead of sending it back to the grid. We’ll talk this through properly as part of your quote rather than assume.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?
In most cases, yes, without needing to touch your existing panels. We check your inverter and current setup first to make sure everything’s compatible.
Can I charge an EV from my solar panels?
Yes, provided the charger and inverter are compatible with each other, your car can draw from your own generation first. More detail on our EV charging page.
Are there grants available for EV chargers?
The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost up to £500, but it’s been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350).
